Dear friends,
One of the objectives of modern Israeli diplomacy is to
expose the wonders of the Israeli economy to the nations
of the world and to strengthen the ties between Israel's
economy and the world markets.
Israel's diplomatic missions around the world invest
significant resources in achieving these goals, and the
fruits of these efforts are to be seen in different
regions all over the globe.
Alongside Europe and the US, who will continue to be
central objectives for Israeli industry, we invest
heavily in developing new markets and establishing new
partnerships. Our ties with the Asian continent are
growing rapidly. In Latin America, we concluded a Free
Trade Area Agreement with the nations of MERCOSUR. We
also seek to strengthen economic cooperation with the
African continent, and continue to work for expanding
trade and joint ventures with our friends in Africa.
This year, Israel was invited by the OECD to begin the
process of joining that organization. From Israel's
standpoint, this constitutes an expression of confidence
in the strength of the Israeli economy.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Without the energetic work of the foreign embassies in
Israel and their dynamic ambassadors, we would not have
reached the point where we find ourselves today.
Our work is far from done. There are still many things
for us to accomplish. I have no doubt that it won't be
easy, but I can assure you that we will walk along that
rocky road with passion, with energy and with the same
spirit and sense of optimism that created the State of
Israel sixty years ago.
